Happy July 4th!!!
Never thought I would have to spend 3 days a week in a dialysis center at 4 hours a session but somehow I feel grateful that we as humans have developed the technology of what are essentially artificial kidneys to replace broken ones. Although I’m tethered to this machine and dependent on these sessions to remain alive, I have not been this healthy in months, possibly years! I was walking around with a silent killer as toxins and wasteful byproducts were slowly contaminating my blood and poisoning my entire body from within. In a way, I’ve been given a newfound type of freedom.
My nephrologist told me that I should view dialysis as a bridge until a transplant so there will eventually be a light at the end of this tunnel. But for now I’m here, I’m alive, I’m thriving and I plan on sticking around for awhile.
Happy 4th of July to everyone!!! ![]()
