Goodbye groin catheter (6/10/22)

Update :

Catheter in my groin has been removed.

The only remaining procedure is a possible biopsy to determine root cause of my chronic kidney failure. The nephrologist will confirm tomorrow if I’m a candidate for one as he is unsure if I have enough healthy kidney left for it to determine anything. However, this information would be useful to know for a future transplant.

He believes I suffered from an autoimmune condition for a long time. Unfortunately I didn’t allow the doctors to determine that in 2009 when my kidneys were first flagged as having issues via bloodwork. At this point he doesn’t think being treated for autoimmune diseases would bring back kidney function because I’ve had it for so long that my body has essentially accepted it.

They also think that I caused acute problems in addition to chronic with my usage of NSAIDs (ibuprofen) and meds (like colchicines) during my recent gout attack. Essentially my kidneys were already in bad shape and I pushed them over the edge.

BE CAREFUL WITH IBUPROFEN.

Insurance called and confirmed I’m fully covered so this gives me peace of mind that I won’t be bankrupted by this. I’m thankful for that. Some encouraged me to start a GoFundMe but I wanted to wait for insurance’s answer. As of now I do not intend on starting one.

Hopefully I’ll be discharged in the next couple of days. I need to start thinking about what my first meal will be besides a juicy workout!

🤞🏽
